Leiper’s Creek

It was a lot of fun, you could slide for a long way. There was the occasional snake that would drop out of a tree into the water too. I walked on water at least once getting away from one. He dropped in and seemed to just make a bee line toward us. There were a lot of flat rocks in the sand on the shore of the creek and we used to turn them over and find all kinds of snakes under them. We would use long sticks with forks on the end to pin them behind the neck and catch them. We would then usually put them in jars. One time we put two in the same jar and the next morning there was one snake with a piece of the others tale in his mouth. Must have been a king snake I guess. That was cool. It’s a wonder we were never bitten.
